路希的留学申请自述： 让青春绽放光彩
Personal Statement of Lu Xi: Let Youth Shine

我的家乡座落在中国安徽省巢湖市的一个小镇上，这里是远近闻名的鱼米之乡，没有工业污染，天很蓝，水很清。然而这里的经济和教育相对都较欠缺，跟不上中国发达地区的步伐。父母为了让我具有更好的物质保障及良好的教育环境，毅然决然地选择了再安一个家，到我国的政治文化中心首都北京去。所以我到现在就有了两个家：一个安徽、一个北京。
My home is in a small town in Chaohu City, Anhui Province, China. It is known for the land of plenty. There is no industrial pollution; the sky is blue, and the water clear. But the economy and education are relatively less sufficient, especially comparing with the progress in those developed areas of China. For the betterment of my education and life, my parents had decided to make a new home in China's capital city, the political and cultural centre of our country –Beijing. So I now have two homes: one in Anhui, one in Beijing.
在北京生活学习的十多年中，我随父母生活住所的变迁，就读的学校也在不断发生着变化。频繁转学的我，虽然时常感到烦躁，但这也使我变得随遇而安了，提高了我对外界环境的适应能力。
In the decade living and studying in Beijing, I accompanied my parents in several changes of residence; so did my schooling. It was uneasy for me to frequently transfer between schools. But it also made me an easy-going and adaptive person.
2008年第29届奥运会在北京拉开帷幕，我本着这次奥运的主题“同一世界，同一梦想”，用我的行动支持奥运，积极投身各项体育运动。乒乓球、羽毛球都是我喜欢的项目，尽管技术不好，但还是情有独钟。我喜欢在夜晚看城市的车水马龙、灯火阑珊，也会经常去看城市广场上玩轮滑的年轻人，甚至看得直到出神，就像鲁迅说的“酣眠固不可少，小睡也别有风味”一般。期间，我渐渐地爱上了轮滑这项运动，并认识了张叔。张叔是“北京6℃轮滑俱乐部”的创始人。他喜欢吸纳热爱轮滑的年轻人。我顺利地进入了该轮滑俱乐部。张叔为人和善，有着与人无争的憨厚秉性，不仅教会我轮滑，还教会了我能很好地与人沟通、虚心请教的能力。从事轮滑还使我收获了众多友谊。
In 2008, the 29th Olympic Games kicked off in Beijing. Inspired by the Olympic motto, "One World, One Dream", I supported the Olympic Games with actions - taking an active part in all kinds of sport. Both table tennis and badminton were my favourite sports. Although my skills needed to be improved, I was very into sports. I would also like to watch a busy city at night, with the lights shinning in the darkness. I often went skating in the city squares as well. During that period of time, I gradually fell in love with figure skating. Later I met Uncle Zhang – founder of "Beijing 6 ℃ Skating Club". He promoted skating among young people. I successfully joined the skating club. With simple and honest personality, and strongly believing in the philosophy of non-confrontational, Uncle Zhang not only taught me skating, but also taught me to effectively and humbly communicate with and study from others. Skating gifted me many precious friendships that I treasure for lifetime.
过分关注某样东西，可能其它都会受到影响。尽管我的轮滑水平不断提高，学习成绩却不断下降了，致使我的在校班主任不断“问候”我爸，向他告知我如何上课迟到、注意力不集中等方面的问题。
Over concerned about something, other things will likely to be affected. Although my skating had improved continuously, my academic performance had been declining at the time. My teachers informed my lateness, inattention and other issues in classroom to my Dad.

学习成绩不如意。我的父亲就在第一时间站出来给我最坚实的臂膀，让我依靠。我每次都能从我爸身上获得积极向上的动力。他用朴实无华的语言开导我，全力引导我步入正轨。他为我们家而辛勤操劳的高大背影和对我的谆谆教诲，让我明白了父亲的良苦用心。在父亲循循善诱的引导下，我决定改变现状，安心学习。那一年，我拼尽全力埋头功课。真是功夫不负有心人，学习成绩不断大幅提升，我的照片终于登上了学校的光荣榜。
My father offered his strong arm in the first time to help me step out of the academic disappointments. I always get positive energy from my Dad. He used plain but strong language to enlighten me, and guide me to the right track. He worked hard for the family. His tall and solid image and his education, made me understand his great expectation on me. Under his guidance, I decided to change the status quo, and studied hard. That year, I pushed myself hard and buried myself in the coursework. Hard work pays off - my academic performance increased dramatically; and my photo was finally boarded on the school's Hall of Fame.
初中总共三年，我又转了一次学，这回转学与以往大大不同，我回到了老家：中国安徽省的巢湖。比起北京那种优越的生活条件，这里显得还是有点艰苦的。幸运的是我在新学校，遇上的第一个老师张克诚，他非常热情喜欢跟我聊天讲道理，用他以往的经验帮我改正反复出现的贪玩陋习，还常为我解决非常棘手的一些恼人事情。他的言行举止影响我形成了不怕艰难万险、迎难而上的品格。
During the three years of junior high school, I once again transferred between two schools. But this time was different: I went back to my hometown in Chaohu of Anhui Province from Beijing. Compared to Beijing’s living conditions, there seems still a little hard back in my hometown. Fortunately, I entered into a new school, and met my first teacher Mr Zhang Kecheng. He was very warm-hearted and enjoyed chatting with me for educational purposes. With his previous experience, he helped me to correct my bad habits. He also helped me deal with the difficult and annoying moments in life. I also learned strong will from him.
当你的能力不足以支撑你的理想的时候，就该设法努力充实自己。2012年初中毕业了，我面临一堆选择。完成了九年义务制教育之后，我最终选择了继续学习攻读高中。同年8月我被安徽省的巢湖市黄麓中学所录取。我很庆幸，因为黄麓中学就座落在我的家乡黄麓小镇之上。以前四年的花样轮滑经历，让我养成了刻苦钻研、敢于挑战的性格，我把这些全都引用到了高中的课堂学习上。我相信宝贵的经历，定能使我在自身的学习生涯中，面对不断重新定位的个人社会角色以及权衡理想与现实之间利弊得失的关键时刻，做出最好、最充分的心理准备和选择。在高中，我又遇到了两位对我的求学之路有着重要积极影响的导师，他们是张高羽老师与张克英老师。这两位恩师对我的学习关怀备至。张高羽老师那颇为犀利而幽默的话语一直在激励着我不断前进;张克英老师则用温柔的富有正能量的方式教导着我。他俩对我的孜孜不倦，使我受益匪浅，坚定了我要做一个对社会有用的人而不断努力。
When your ability was not enough to realize your goal, the only meaningful thing is trying to improve yourself. Graduated from the Junior School in 2012, I was in a crossroad of many choices. After completing the compulsory nine years of education, I chose to continue my study in high school. In August, I was accepted into Huanglu High School in Chaohu City, AnhuiProvince. I was very happy, because the school located just close to my home in Huanglu town. The previous four years experience of figure skating shaped my strong personality and my readiness to always challenge myself. Those were transferable to the high school classroom. I believed that the valuable experience would enable me to make the right choice between personal preference and one’s responsibility to the society, as well as between reality and ideal. In high school, I encountered with two important teachers in my life: Mr Zhang Gaoyu and Zhang Keying. They cared and mentored me. Mr Zhang always encouraged me with his sharp and humorous words; and Ms ZHANG taught me with her positive energy and gentle attitude. They worked tirelessly for me, and in return, I learned a lot from them. Those studying experiences made me determined to constructively contribute our society.
后来通过不期而至的美丽偶然缘份，最近我结识到了一位奇人：集作家、清华大学才女、中华全国青联机关刋认定的首届优秀海外华人代表、中国驻印全国留学生首任学生会主席、英国牛津大学在读博士、美国布鲁金斯学会2011-2012特邀驻会客座研究员••••••等诸多光环于一身的姐姐马宇歌。她给了我几点关于未来的相当宝贵建议。
Later, through a beautiful and accidental fate, I got to know my role model: writers, Tsinghua alumnus, and Oxford PhD candidate, and Brooking Institution Specially Invited Guest(2011-2012), Ms Ma Yuge. She gave me useful recommendations for the future.
当时我很仔细地研读了这位比我大不了几岁的小姐姐2013年8月在北京出版的个人新著《去印度成长》(上网去搜马宇歌和这本书的书名就能找到该著完整电子版)。看完这本书，更加坚定了我走出国门，去探索未知人生的决心。我一定要使自己真能成为一个知识渊博，对社会有用的人。
I also carefully read her new book “Grow Up in India”, published in China in August 2013 (the e-book can be found online by searching Yuge Ma’s name). After reading the book, I was further determined to pursue my higher education overseas. In addition, I was motivated to explore the unknown beauty of life, and to become a knowledgeable and valuable person.
根据马宇歌小姐姐的指引和自己的深思熟虑，我坚定地在众多国家中选定了印度这个令我神往已久的国度，我决心踏着姐姐的足迹前进! 从小以来通过《西游记》里面介绍的印度，我对那边的宗教、习俗、传统等等，充满了浓厚的兴趣。并且，我也希望像唐三藏那样，经由自身的努力和众多热心人的指引，最终取得真经。
Inspired by Ms Ma experience, I'm firm to study in India, the country that I have long wanted to explore. I have decided to follow her steps! Since childhood, I have immersed myself in the stories of the "Journey to the West," which describes India’s religion, customs, traditions, etc. And I also hope that, through hard working and guidance from many dedicated people, I could ultimately get closer to truth, like Xuan Zang.
如我有幸顺利实现了进入印度更高学府深造的愿望，我会向周围各国同学特别是成功的师哥师姐们虚心请教，严格要求自己，力争为后来的师弟师妹们做出表率。19岁的我，现在还很不成熟，想要达到的人生目标离现实差距不小，我正在为此进行人生规划。通过过去求学漫漫长路的十多年历程，我深深感到自己的经验、见识、积累以及自身个性、接受能力等方面还存在着一些这样那样的等等不足。我必须继续努力学习，为实现人生的美好梦想，矢志不移地追求知识和品徳的完美。我明确的清楚我最不想要那种一眼就能看到死的人生，因为那样的人生缺乏挑战性，太没意思了。我决意去更高学府求学，避免成为一个终生碌碌无为的庸人，力争今生做个真真正正对社会有贡献的人。我承诺，肯定不会让含辛茹苦养育我的父母、辛勤栽培我的老师、奋发骈进的同窗以及在我身后默默帮助我的一切恩人们失望，我一定要让我的青春绽放光彩，不留遗憾!
If I was fortunate enough to successfully enter into the higher institutions in India, I will set high standards for myself, and set good example to my juniors in China. In the age of 19, I am still immature, and still have a long way to go in achieving my goals of life. But I'm doing my best in life planning in order to realize my dream. Through ten years of education, I understand my shortcomings in knowledge and experience very well. I must continue to work hard for the betterment of life, and in pursuit of the perfection of knowledge and personality. I definitely do not want a life that is set by the common. A life without challenge is not worth living. I decide to go to university in order to study more, to avoid mediocrity, and to strive to lead a genuine life. I promise, that I will certainly not let my parents, teachers and fellows down. I must let my youth shine, and leave no regrets for life!
